Centrica Buys Customer Base Of Not-For-Profit Supplier Robin Hood

4th Sep 2020 07:57

(Alliance News) - FTSE 250-listed Centrica PLC on Friday said it has acquired the customer base of Nottingham-based Robin Hood Energy Ltd for an undisclosed sum.

Centrica - which owns 'Big Six' energy supplier British Gas - said Robin Hood serves 112,000 residential customers and 2,600 business customers.

The deal is expected to get over the line on September 16 with customers transitioning to British Gas "over the next few months".

Centrica Chief Executive Chris O'Shea said: "As well as our actions to simplify and modernise our business, we are focused on returning to profitable growth in our core markets and investing in value generating opportunities.

"Our customers are at the heart of everything we do, and we are delighted to welcome Robin Hood customers to British Gas."

Not-for-profit energy firm Robin Hood is owned by Nottingham City Council and it was created to give local customers a cheaper alternative to the UK's major energy suppliers.
