LONDON (Alliance News) - Caspian Sunrise PLC said Wednesday it has spudded a new deep well at its BNG contract area in western Kazakhstan.
The A8 well was spudded in the Airshagyl field of BNG and has reached a depth of 350 metres "without incident".
A8 has a planned total depth of 5,300 metres and is expected to take 250 days to drill and complete, with BNG staff providing direct oversight when drilling.
This oversight is intended to prevent the kinds of issues encountered at the A5 deep well, where rock fragments obstructed the pre-perforated liner used in the well.
Having been unable to clear the obstruction more easily, coil tubing operations were commenced using a specialist contractor. This proved unsuccessful and so a rig was mobilised to remove the tubing.
At present, however, attempts to remove one meter of unwanted metal from the bottom of the wall have proven unsuccessful.
"Should the unwanted metal still remain present in the well after all attempts to remove it have been exhausted our fall back would be to drill a further side track from a position above the unwanted metal obstruction," Caspian Sunrise said.
At well 801, Caspian Sunrise is awaiting peak pressure before it commences its flow test.
Shares in Caspian Sunrise were up 3.9% at 6.50 pence on Wednesday.
