Carnival's Princess Cruises Extends Voyage Pauses As Ports Stay Closed

4th Jun 2020 11:10

(Alliance News) - Carnival PLC on Thursday said its Princess Cruises brand extended its pause in some voyages in and out of the US, Australia and Taiwan.

The pause in operations has been extended to Princess Cruises voyages in Australia through to mid-September and in Vancouver and Seattle in September and October.

The Pacific and California coast seven-day round trip cruises planned for September and October also will stay in port, as will planned round trip cruises in Taiwan in August.

On Tuesday, Carnival's P&O Cruises had extended the suspension of sailings until mid-October as it seeks approval for enhanced safety and hygiene measures. The UK's biggest cruise line had previously cancelled trips up to the end of July.

"Due to extension of the closure of cruise ports in regions around the world and other factors impacting international travel, Princess Cruises is extending its pause in cruise operations," Carnival said on Thursday.

The spread of the novel coronavirus contagion has cancelled travel plans and caused governments to impose lockdown measures.

Carnival in May said it began a series of layoffs, furloughs, reduced work weeks, and salary reductions across the company to combat the lack of revenue due to the pandemic.

Carnival shares were 4.3% lower at 1,123.50 pence each in London on Thursday morning.

The stock will soon wave goodbye to the FTSE 100 index of blue-chips, following the quarterly index review. From June 22, it will be demoted to the FTSE 250 index.
