Carnival's Princess Cruises Extends Halt In Operations To End Of May

28th Oct 2020 11:22

(Alliance News) - Carnival PLC unit Princess Cruises on Wednesday said it has extended its pause in operations for cruises departing from Australia and New Zealand through May 31, 2021, due to the uncertainty regarding lifting of international travel restrictions

The cruise operator said customers can either receive a full refund of the booking, or can avail a refundable future cruise credit plus an additional non-refundable bonus credit.

They have until November 30 to elect for a refund, or they will automatically receive the default credit offer.

Princess will protect travel advisor commissions on bookings for cancelled cruises that were paid in full, saying this is in recognition of the critical role they play in the cruise line's success.

Earlier in October, Carnival reported it had swung to another quarterly loss but was optimistic about the future of leisure travel and unveiled plans to optimise its fleet.

For the three months ended August 31, Carnival posted hardly any revenue, totalling USD31 million, down from USD6.53 billion a year earlier. It swung to a quarterly pretax loss of USD2.86 billion versus a USD1.83 billion profit in the prior year.

Carnival resumed some cruise operations on September 6, with its first voyage since mid-March.

Shares in Carnival were down 5.0% at 863.08 pence each in London on Wednesday morning.
