Carnival's P&O Cruises Australia Extends New Zealand Pause To April

6th Jan 2021 10:06

(Alliance News) - Carnival PLC on Wednesday said P&O Cruises Australia has extended its New Zealand operations pause to April 25, while it works with public health authorities and the government.

Having originally been scheduled to begin sailing from February 6, Pacific Explorer's operations were put on pause until March 4 and are now on hold until April 25. The company said it is working with both the government and public health authorities to determined "the appropriate time to restart sailing".

The cruise line said it plans a return to New Zealand for a dedicated 150-day season in July 2022.

In Australia, Pacific Adventure is to begin sailing from Sydney on April 30, while the Pacific Encounter will call Brisbane home from May 7, though with possible additional voyages added earlier based on the timing of the return of cruising in Australia.

P&O Cruises Australia President Sture Myrmell said: "We know that much better days lie ahead, and we remain positive about the resumption of cruising. While we've paused operations, P&O Cruises together with the wider industry has been using the time wisely to plan for cruising's return."

Shares in Carnival were up 2.7% at 1,323.86 pence in London on Wednesday morning.
