(Alliance News) - Carnival PLC on Monday said its Italian subsidiary Costa Crociere SpA has cancelled cruises for the 2020-21 season in South America.
The London and New York listed cruise operator said all cruises aboard the Costa Fascinosa, Costa Luminosa and Costa Pacifica ships in South America, with embarkations scheduled for the period from November to April 2021, have been cancelled.
"Costa Cruises has been sailing in South America uninterrupted for 72 years, and we are committed to continue operating here," said Dario Rustico, executive president of Costa Cruises for Central and South America.
At the same time as announcing the decision about the 2020-21 season, Costa said sales for the 2021-22 season in South America will open on Tuesday.
The company will have two ships operating between December 2021 and April 2022 in the region.
"We look forward to resuming operations in the region in the 2021-2022 season with two ships, continuing to offer the best of Italy on board our ships and a unique and yet exclusive experience for our South American guests," added Rustico.
FTSE 250-listed Carnival shares were trading 0.8% lower in London on Monday at 1,123.00 pence each. The stock is down 69% so far this year, as the Covid-19 pandemic has kept ships in port worldwide.
