Carnival's Costa Cancels All Northern Europe Cruises Until Summer End

3rd Jul 2020 12:47

(Alliance News) - Carnival PLC on Thursday said Costa has paused all its cruises until August 15 and has cancelled all its cruises in Northern Europe for the rest of the 2020 summer season.

The FTSE 250-listed cruise ship operator added that all future cruises of Costa Victoria have been cancelled.

Carnival said the decision is linked to uncertainty regarding the gradual reopening of ports to cruise ships as well as the restrictions that may still be in place due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

"Costa is taking steps to inform both travel agents and guests affected by these changes. They will be guaranteed a re-protection in accordance with the applicable legislation, which offers the highest guarantee in this contingency situation. In the meantime, Costa is working alongside all relevant Authorities to define health protocols for a potential restart of cruises as soon as possible," the company said.

On Thursday, Carnival had said its German subsidiary AIDA Cruises has extended the pause of its operations until the end of August.

In June, it had said its Carnival Cruise Line extended its operational pause in North America until the end of September. It also said that its Holland America Line extended its pause on cruise operations and is cancelling further departures from the port of Vancouver in 2020 as well as some Hawaii itineraries for early 2021. Luxury cruise line Cunard also extended its pause in operations until November 23.

The stock was trading 3.5% higher at 989.40 pence each on Friday afternoon in London, but is 73% lower than at the start of the year.
