(Alliance News) - Carnival Corp on Thursday said operations at its German arm will be suspended through November, after Chancellor Angela Merkel announced sweeping new restrictions to the leisure sector in a bid to stem Covid-19 infections.
Carnival said its AIDA Cruises paused operations from Thursday, cancelling all voyages planned between October 31 and November 30.
"This follows the federal government of Germany's October 28 decision to impose further restrictions on public life and travel to limit the spread of Covid-19, which AIDA Cruises fully supports," Carnival explained.
Germany on Wednesday ordered a new round of shutdowns for the cultural, leisure as well as food and drink sectors. The tough restrictions, which will kick in from Monday and last to the end of November, also will limit the number of people gathering to a maximum of 10 individuals from two households. Schools and shops will be allowed to stay open.
Carnival shares were up 1.2% at 848.60 pence each in London on Thursday afternoon, though they remain down 77% so far in 2020.
