(Alliance News) - Carnival PLC on Monday said Costa Diadema, a ship operated by Costa Cruises, will be the second to return to service, beginning with a cruise from Genoa.
The FTSE 250-listed cruise ship operator stated Costa Diadema will sail to Liguria and the Western Mediterranean, followed by Costa Smeralda which will resume on October 10, and new fleet member Costa Firenze which will begin sailing December 27.
Carnival said Costa Diadema's itinerary only includes calls at Italian ports and is reserved for guests resident in Italy. After Genoa, Diadema will call at Civitavecchia/Rome, Naples, Palermo, Cagliari and La Spezia.
It added it has developed a health and safety protocol including Covid-19 swab testing for all guests and crew, temperature screening, physical distancing, enhanced sanitization and increased health care facilities.
"At last Costa's cruises are back in Genoa and Liguria, which has been our home for over 70 years. We're setting sail again gradually and responsibly, with safety protocols that are unrivalled in the tourism industry. The initial response from our guests has been most encouraging," said Michael Thamm, group chief executive Costa Group & Carnival Asia.
Shares in Carnival were trading 6.8% lower at 883.00 pence each on Monday morning in London.
