10th Aug 2020 09:30

(Alliance News) - Carnival PLC said Monday it has repurchased USD836.3 million worth of 5.75% convertible senior notes due 2023, following the raising of funds to do so through an equity offering for shares.

The FTSE 250 cruise line operator issued 93.7 million shares at a price of USD14.02 each to the noteholders, and intends to close an additional 5.5 million shares at the same price, in order to repurchase an additional USD49.3 million in notes.

Shares in Carnival were up 2.5% at 907.20 pence on Monday in London.

Goldman Sachs acted as the exclusive placement agent for the offering, while PJT Partners LP acted as financial advisor.

Following the repurchase of notes, an aggregate of USD1.13 billion of the convertible notes will remain outstanding.

Also on Monday, Carnival said that its German subsidiary AIDA Cruises is planning to resume its cruise operations, with the first ships embarking from German ports at the start of September.

The first trips from Kiel will start on September with AIDAperla to the Norwegian fjords start from Hamburg on September 12, 19 and 26.

However, as the current development shows, not in all European travel destinations the prerequisites for safe travel are given yet.

In addition, AIDA Cruises said it must extend that pause of its cruise season until the end of September, with the exception being the departures from Kiel and Hamburg.
