Carnival Notes Seabourn Luxury Cruise-Line Cancellations Due To Virus

1st Sep 2020 10:31

(Alliance News) - Cruise-line operator Carnival PLC on Tuesday noted Seabourn has cancelled the voyages of three more cruise ships in its fleet until 2021 as part of its pause on worldwide operations.

Seabourn is a brand of Carnival.

The pauses will affect the following ships: Seabourn Ovation until January 3, 2021; Seabourn Encore until January 6, 2021; and Seabourn Quest until May 10, 2021.

Seabourn said: "The decision to cancel additional voyages is a proactive action to deal with the circumstances continuing to evolve from the global response to the COVID-19 situation."

Seabourn had previously announced a pause in operations from March 14 this year to May, 2021, depending on the ship.

Seabourn Venture's schedule will be announced in October.

Seanpourn Odyssey's voyages in the Caribbean are still under assessment.

Seabourn Quest is to operate the line's 2021-2022 Antarctica experience and will debut in December, 2021. Following this decision, Seabourn Quest's Panama Canal voyages scheduled for November 7 to December 19, 2021, are to be cancelled.

Additionally, Seabourn has pushed back the delivery date for a new ultra-luxury expedition ship to December 1, 2021, due to shipyard closures and Covid-19 disruptions.

Seabourn President Josh Leibowitz said: "We recognize the long lead time for planning an ultra-luxury Seabourn experience and with that in mind, we proactively announce the cancellation of these additional voyages. We are working very closely with science and medical advisors as well as our source and destination markets to develop protocols for the ultimate return to operations."

Guests affected by the cancellations and changes will either be reimbursed or be re-accommodated in the same cruise for the following season - dependent on the cruise booked.

Carnival shares were down 4.5% at 1,007.51 pence each on Tuesday morning in London.
