LONDON (Alliance News) - Carillion PLC on Wednesday said it has won contracts and been awarded preferred bidder status on UK projects worth a total of GBP123 million but said its Dubai joint venture has pulled out of a major project.
The company will handle a GBP17 million contract to build a 260-bed student accommodation site in Newcastle under Select Property's Vita Studnent brand. Work has started on the project, with completion scheduled for May 2016.
Carillion has also been selected a preferred bidder on a Vita Student scheme in Glasgow worth GBP32 million and on a CitySuites project, also from Select Property, in Manchester worth GBP34 million.
The Glasgow contract will involve site remediation and construction of a 501-bed student accommodation site and will be built in two phase, with the first to complete in September 2017 and the second to complete a year later. The Manchester deal involves delivering 260 luxury apartments in Manchester, with the project due to be completed in January 2017.
The company is also part of a joint venture which was been appointed to build the GBP85 million A5-M1 Link Road Dunstable Northern Bypass by Highways England.
"Work winning in UK construction continues to be strong and these recent contract wins have further strengthened our substantial, high quality order book, which we have created through consistently applying our strategy of focusing on large contracts and long-term customers. We look forward to working with the Select Property Group and with Highways England to deliver these important contracts," said Carillion Chief Executive Richard Howson.
But Carillion also said the Al Futtaim Carillion joint venture has decided to pull out of the GBP225 million mixed-use development on the Dubai Creek waterfront, awarded by Dubai-based holding company Meraas. The joint venture said the development will now be delivered by the marine works contractor, with the project having become highly dependent on an associated marine works project.
The company will continue to work on the GBP155 million La Mer development for Meraas in Jumeirah in Dubai.
