Carillion Awarded GBP70 Million M6 Motorway Contract

1st Nov 2013 11:37

LONDON (Alliance News) - Construction giant Carillion Friday said it has been awarded a GBP70 million contract by the Highways Agency to improve a section of the M6, bringing the total value of highway contracts won by the firm in recent weeks to around GBP180 million.

Carillion will convert a section of the M6 in the West Midlands between Junctions 10A and 13, into a "smart motorway", installing variable mandatory speed limits and opening up the hard shoulder to traffic to reduce congestion.

The project is expected to be completed in Spring 2015.

Other recent deals include a GBP25 million contract to construct the Mortpeth Northern Bypass for Northumberland County Council and a GBP16 million contract from Leeds City Council for maintenance of the A58 Woodhouse Tunnel.

"In respect of the contracts announced today, a value of approximately GBP80 million was included within probable orders in Carillion's half-year results announcement on 22 August 2013, with the remaining GBP100 million classified as pipeline opportunities," the firm said.

The stock was trading at 305.35 pence Friday morning, up 1.35 pence or 0.4%.
