LONDON (Alliance News) - Capita PLC Thursday said it has been appointed preferred bidder to take over customer management and back office services for UK electricity and gas supplier RWE Npower, a deal that would be worth about GBP120 million over seven years if it is confirmed.
In a statement, the services outsource company said final negotiations are now taking place, with the deal set to start February 1.
"Capita will take responsibility for part of Npower's customer service operation and deliver a business transformation programme that will enhance customer service for Npower's domestic business," it said in a statement.
The news comes a day after the BBC reported that Npower is set to cut 1,400 jobs in a major restructuring of its UK operations, closing a number of sites and outsourcing some office operations to India.
In August, Npower announced a major overhaul of its UK operations and said it would consolidate its offices around the world from 26 to 10 over the next five years as part of a plan to reduce costs and improve customer service.
Capita shares were up 0.8% at 985.403 pence Thursday morning.
