Cambridge Cognition Files Patent Application Related To Wearables

6th May 2015 09:05

LONDON (Alliance News) - Cambridge Cognition Holdings PLC said Wednesday that it has filed a new patent application covering systems and methods for assessing cognitive function and symptoms of neurological and neuropsychiatric conditions.

The patent surrounds the use of wearable devices which continuously monitor parameters such as pulse, movement and voice to compare them to a baseline of what is normal for the individual. If the parameters deviate from the baseline, this triggers cognitive testing through a mobile device like a smartphone, and this can be used to help identify the very early signs of deterioration in mental function.

The patent will extend Cambridge Cognition's intellectual property asset estate, and will add significantly to the technology value of the company, it said.

"The novel technology around this patent builds nicely on our strategy going forward of providing technologies and products for early identification and intervention to maintain a healthy cognitive function. With the increasing impact of dementia on healthcare budgets, treating impairment early will have a significant positive impact on long term patient care for this very distressing disease," said Chief Executive Officer Nick Kerton in a statement.

Shares in Cambridge Cognition are trading up 4.0% at 84.20 pence Wednesday morning.
