LONDON (Alliance News) - Cairn Energy PLC on Wednesday said it has successfully completed its second appraisal well offshore Senegal, adding it is "delighted" with the test results.
The FTSE 250-listed oil and gas company said the SNE-3 well underwent two drill stem tests within the upper reservoirs. The first test produced a maximum flow rate of 5,400 barrels of oil per day and a main flow rate of 4,000 barrels of oil per day, both over a 24 hour period from a 15.0 metre zone.
The second test delivered a maximum flow rate of 5,200 barrels of oil per day with a main flow rate of 4,500 barrels of oil per day, both over a six hour period from a 5.5 metre zone.
Both tests yielded those flow rates using a 56/64 inch choke.
Cairn said the tests have confirmed the well holds a similar reservoir quality to the previous wells drilled offshore Senegal, SNE-1 and SNE-2, and also showed a correlation of the principal reservoir units between the three wells.
"Cairn is delighted with the flow rates from the latest well in the Senegal appraisal programme, which validate the scale and growth potential of the SNE field," said Chief Executive Simon Thomson.
"The results have demonstrated the ability of the upper reservoirs to flow at commercially viable rates and we eagerly look forward to the results of the BEL-1 well which will commence operations shortly," he added.
