(Alliance News) - Buccaneer Energy PLC on Monday said it has successfully completed an organic oil recovery pilot project at its Pine Mills field in East Texas, US, using Hunting PLC's enhanced oil recovery solution.
Buccaneer, the Texas-focused exploration company, previously known as Nostra Terra Oil & Gas, said production in the area doubled after the treatment.
Prior to treatment, production from the area averaged 15 barrels of oil per day, after treatment it reached 30 bopd.
Organic oil recovery involves injecting a nutrient mixture into the reservoir to grow naturally occurring microorganisms. These microbes alter their surface properties to reduce the tension between the rock face and the reservoir oil, improving the mobility of residual oil within mature waterflood systems.
The pilot project was implemented in the northern section of the Pine Mills field within the Battery 3 area, Buccaneer Energy added.
Based on the results, Buccaneer said it plans to treat the remaining wells in the Battery 3 area as part of a March follow-up programme.
The firm added that it is working with the service provider to expand the programme across the Pine Mills field during the second quarter of 2026.
"We see this program as a practical step toward converting underlying reserve value into cash flow and look forward to updating shareholders as we expand the initiative across the field," said Buccaneer Energy Chief Executive Officer Paul Welch.
In a separate release, London-based supplier of equipment to the oil and gas industry Hunting said it was "delighted" with the pilot treatment, which it said shows the impact that its solution can have on oil production.
Hunting Chief Executive Jim Johnson said: "This well result supports our confidence in the OOR technology, as a lower cost enhanced oil recovery solution which can be utilised in many oil wells globally."
Shares in Buccaneer Energy were up 11% at 0.01 pence on Monday morning in London, while Hunting shares were 5.6% higher at 507.50p.
