BT's Openreach to speed up fibre broadband rollout via special offer

1st Jul 2021 10:48

(Alliance News) - BT Group PLC on Thursday announced that its subsidiary Openreach has made a special offer for wholesale communications providers, in order to drive further adoption of its full fibre broadband technology.

The offer will be available once customers choose to commit to use fibre-to-the-premises when they purchase from Openreach, and will grant pricing certainty for up to ten years with a single national rental price applying to Openreach's entire FTTP footprint.

Prices can be competitive, with customers altering offers to cover a range of speed tiers, while pricing is set by telecommunications regulator Ofcom on the lowest speed tier, which is 40 megabits per second upstream.

The offer will be open for customers to take part with effect on October 1, and March 30,2022, with the long-term pricing certainty lasting until September 30, 2031.

"Nobody's building Full Fibre broadband faster, further, or at a higher quality than Openreach, and we're well on track to reach 25 million premises by December 2026. At the same time we're determined to make Full Fibre the default option for customers throughout the UK, so we've been working closely with Communications Providers to offer simple and competitive pricing which gives them the long-term certainty and flexibility they need," said Katie Mulligan, managing director of Customer, Commercials and Propositions at Openreach.

Shares in BT were up 0.7% at 195.30 pence on Thursday in London.
