LONDON (Alliance News) - BT Group PLC said Thursday that it had signed an exclusive multi-year television partnership with the National Basketball Association for its BT Sports service, securing another set of rights from rivals British Sky Broadcasting Group PLC.
Under the agreement, BT Sport will provide coverage of NBA games starting December 1 in the UK and Ireland. Coverage will include weekly games on Sunday, and customers will be able to access selected games streamed live for free on the BT Sport website and the BT Sport mobile application.
"BT will be the new home of the NBA in the UK and Ireland," said Head of BT Sport Simon Green in a statement. "Existing NBA fans will love our coverage, and we look forward to converting many more."
The 2012-2013 NBA season was broadcast by BSkyB and EPSN.
BT secured the exclusive rights to show Premier League and Europa Cup football matches in the UK for three seasons November 11, beating out BSkyB. BT secured the deal for EUR1.08 billion, leading BSkyB to accuse the broadcaster of overpaying for the rights.
No financial details of the latest agreement were given by BT.
Shares in BT Group were trading up 0.90 pence at 374.80 pence Thursday afternoon.
