LONDON (Alliance News) - BT Group PLC said Wednesday that recently retired rugby player Brian O'Driscoll has signed up to be a presenter for its BT Sport service.
O'Driscoll will take up various roles with the sports service, acting as a rugby expert and a BT Sport ambassador. Primarily, he will act as an expert on coverage of the newly formed European Rugby Champions Cup and European Rugby Challenge Cup, as well as BT Sport's weekly Rugby show Rugby Tonight.
BT cited Rugby as a key aspect of the BT Sport service, saying that rugby television audiences in its début season on BT Sport rose 40% from the previous season.
"I?m joining BT Sport because I?ve been impressed by their new and fresh approach to rugby coverage and I?m looking forward to being a part of their team," O'Driscoll said in a statement.
BT Sport signed a three-year deal with Chelsea football club manager José Mourinho last week for a similar role.
Shares in BT Group were trading up 1.1% at 390.50 pence Wednesday afternoon.
