LONDON (Alliance News) - BT Group PLC said Monday it has launched its new 'Next Generation Text' service for individuals with hearing and speech impairment, to make it easier for them to use the phone.
The service allows people who need to use text to communication over the phone either directly or through a relay assistant, which converts speech to text and vice versa, via a free application for Android and iOS devices and personal computers.
BT has been trialling the service since March, and said it has been received well by the customers who have taken part.
The service replaces BT's existing text relay service. It is available to BT customers and on a wholesale basis to other communications providers.
Shares in BT were trading up 0.1% at 377.20 pence Monday morning.
