(Alliance News) - Construction materials firm Breedon Group PLC said Monday partner Bear Scotland Ltd has won a GBP720 million contract for the maintenance of Scotland's trunk roads.
Bear Scotland has been confirmed by Transport Scotland as the operating company for the new network management contract to manage and maintain Scotland's South East Trunk Road unit, an eight-year contract with an option to extend for up to a further four years estimated to be worth up to GBP720 million.
"The news means that Bear takes responsibility for overseeing the 314 miles of trunk roads across the south-east of Scotland from August 2020 until 2028 with a possible four-year extension to 2032," Breedon said.
The company continued: "For the first time the South East unit includes the iconic Queensferry Crossing and Forth Road Bridge, which was previously a separate contract. The new contract also takes into account the renewed focus on climate change and sustainability targets."
Shares in Breedon were down 2.7% in London on Monday at 71.24 pence each.
