LONDON (Alliance News) - BP PLC on Wednesday said it has started a major water injection project at the Thunder Horse platform in the Gulf of Mexico in order to extend the production life of the deepwater oil field.
The project will boost recovery of oil and natural gas from one of the three main Thunder Horse reservoirs, the FTSE 100-listed oil major said.
It is the second of five major upstream projects BP expects to bring online in 2016 and is part of the group's plan to add around 800,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day of new production from projects starting up between 2015 and 2025.
"This project will help BP sustain high levels of oil production in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico for years to come," said Richard Morrison, regional president of BP's Gulf of Mexico business.
