(Alliance News) - Oil major BP PLC on Wednesday said it has struck an agreement with an Amazon.com Inc unit to supply 170 megawatts of renewable energy.
The deal, which BP said is the equivalent of powering 125,000 homes per year, will see the FTSE 100 firm supply energy to Amazon Web Services, a cloud computing services provider.
BP said: "BP has agreed the first in a series of innovative power deals with Amazon Web Services to supply renewable energy to the European data centres that drive the AWS cloud platform.
"The deal is in line with BP's growing sustainable power business, which includes tailored Power Purchase Agreements within the corporate sector."
Starting from 2021, energy from BP's wind and solar projects in Sweden and Spain will be used by Amazon Web Services.
Shares in BP ended Wednesday 0.5% higher at 472.35 pence each.
