BP opens UK's first rapid-charging hub for electric fleet vehicles

10th Jun 2021 09:09

(Alliance News) - BP PLC on Thursday announced the opening of the UK’s first rapid charging hub for electric vehicles that are part of company fleets.

The new BP pulse rapid-charging hub is now live on Park Lane in London, BP said.

The company claimed the hub is the first of its kind in the UK. It is the first of many it intends to open in London and other European cities in the future. Uber Technologies Inc and other selected fleet customers will be able to access the hubs.

"London anticipates that by 2025 taxis and private hire vehicles will account for 80% of all public charging demand in the city," said BP Senior Vice President of Future Mobility & Solutions Richard Bartlett.

"Fast, reliable charging infrastructure in convenient locations is essential to give business and fleet customers the confidence to make the switch to electric. That’s why we’re opening our new hubs at the heart of major cities across the UK and Europe, aiming to keep fleets charged and ready for business - whilst producing zero emissions."

BP's new rapid charging hubs will deliver charging in locations where "fleet and operational vehicles need it most", with a target of at least 10 chargers per site. The company claims to itself operate the largest electric vehicle charging network in the UK.

The stock was down 0.4% at 323.45 pence in London on Thursday morning.
