Botswana Diamonds finds thickest intersection yet at Thorny River

21st Sep 2021 11:50

(Alliance News) - Botswana Diamonds PLC on Tuesday said it found thick kimberlite intersections during its recent Thorny River drilling programme.

One of the nine drilled holes at Thorny River intersected 13.5 metres of kimberlite zone and another intersected 19.1 metres of kimberlite zone, which is the biggest thickness found in all three of the company's drilling programmes to date.

Shares were up 6.6% at 1.15 pence in London on Tuesday.

Thorny River is a diamond prospect in the Limpopo province of South Africa.

The diamond exploration company initially planned to drill eight reverse circulation holes between the recently discovered river and river extension blows, but completed the programme having drilled nine.

Both kimberlite intersections came from extending Thorny River's river blow towards the extension blow.

Botswana Diamonds said it has started estimating the potential of the combined blows, including plans for a possible open cast mining, and discovered two new targets to be drilled - which could be blows - close to the current area.

It added that it is considering potential commercial mining options.

"This is an excellent set of results. The two blows are, as we hoped, connected - thus increasing the resource," said Chair John Teeling.

"The two thickest intersections close to the river blow are particularly exciting."
