LONDON (Alliance News) - BlueRock Diamonds PLC Thursday said it has sold a parcel of 116 carats for almost double the average selling price of its previous sales.
The diamond miner said it sold the parcel at an average price of USD440 per carat, which compares to an average of USD248 per carat for the 575 carats sold during the company's trial mining stage at the Kareevlei project in South Africa.
The original competent persons report suggested the company's Kareevlei project would only achieve around USD183 per carat.
Included within the most recent parcel was a 4.7 carat stone which was sold for USD3,885 per carat. The parcel was the first to be sold since the new plant was commissioned at the project, which is not yet fully operational but is being fine tuned to maximise efficiency, the company said.
BlueRock shares were up 3.5% to 22.00 pence per share on Thursday morning.
