Bluebird Merchant Reports No Heavy Metals Contamination At Gubong

26th Apr 2018 11:42

LONDON (Alliance News) - Miner Bluebird Merchant Ventures Ltd on Thursday said laboratory results show there are no heavy metals in water released from its Gubong mine in South Korea.

Earlier in April, the company, which is investigating re-opening Gubong as well as the Kochang mine in the country, commissioned a small water treatment plant to make sure water at Gubong met environmental standards.

All water entering the mine and water used in re-opening will be tested in this plant, and the lack of heavy metals so far shows the plant is working.

Bluebird said it will update in the next few weeks on results from initial metallurgical test work and sampling from the Kochang mine which began last month.

Chief Executive Colin Patterson said: "We have ensured that all the operations that we have carried out to date, at both Gubong and Kochang, have been to the highest industry standards. As such we are delighted that results from the water discharge have been certified to show no heavy metals proving the effectiveness of our water treatment plant.

"We are also delighted with the support that our projects have been gaining from the local community and government, and we will continue to work with both these groups as we progress our projects."

Shares were down 1.6% on Thursday at 3.00 pence each.
