Bloomsbury notes Disney buys "Impossible Creatures" book series rights

8th Oct 2025 11:54

(Alliance News) - Bloomsbury Publishing PLC on Wednesday noted that Walt Disney Studios signed a multi-film deal with Bloomsbury author Katherine Rundell.

Bloomsbury, a London-based publisher, said Walt Disney Studios, a subsidiary of Walt Disney Co division Disney Entertainment, has acquired rights to Rundell's fantasy series "Impossible Creatures", which debuted in 2023.

Bloomsbury said: "Initially envisioned as a trilogy, Rundell expanded 'Impossible Creature' to a five-book series earlier this year in two major seven-figure publishing deals with Bloomsbury and Knopf. The first two books have already sold over one million copies across 37 territories, and Rundell is in discussions to further expand the franchise beyond the five-novel series."

Rundell is an award-winning author, with her books having sold over four million copies worldwide.

She said: "I'm absolutely thrilled to be linking arms with Disney. It's a privilege to be writing these screenplays and developing these first movies in the franchise together with [creative partner] Charles [Collier], my team at Impossible Films, and with the exceptional team at Disney."

Bloomsbury shares were 1.1% higher at 495.50 pence each on Wednesday morning in London, while Disney shares were up 0.2% in pre-market trading at USD112.72 each in New York.
