BHP names KPMG Director Hinchliffe as independent non-executive

2nd Sep 2021 06:55

(Alliance News) - BHP Group PLC on Thursday said it appointed Michelle Hinchliffe as an

independent non-executive director, with effect from March 1 next year.

The Melbourne, Australia-based miner said Hinchliffe is currently the UK chair of Audit for KPMG. Hinchliffe will retire from KPMG UK in February 2022 before joining BHP.

Hinchliffe has over 30 years' experience in KPMG's financial services division and has spent time as a partner and member of the board of KPMG's Australian and UK practices. She has been a member of KPMG's UK board and the UK chair of Audit since 2019.

"Michelle's extensive experience in financial risk management and her broad international perspective will further strengthen the BHP board and complement the expertise of existing directors," said Chair Ken MacKenzie.

BHP shares were trading 6.7% lower in Sydney on Thursday at AUD42.02 each. The stock closed down 8.7% in Johannesburg on Wednesday at ZAR413.50 a share and ended down 1.2% in London at 2,230 pence a share.

The move follows the announcement on Tuesday that BHP held its offer for Noront Resources at CAD325 million, around USD257.4 million, after being outbid by Wyloo Metals.
