LONDON (Alliance News) - Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd on Friday said it has commenced export of its hypertension treatment drug Carvedilol to the US.
Beximco, which makes generic pharmaceutical products, said this is the first time a pharmaceutical product from Bangladesh has been launched in the US, after it received approval from the US Food & Drug Administration in November.
"Today is a significant milestone for Beximco Pharma. As we deliver our first shipment of Carvedilol to the US market, we begin a new era for the pharmaceutical industry in Bangladesh. We believe our continued focus on building and strengthening the group's presence in western markets will cement Bangladesh's position as a major exporting country," Vice Chairman Salman Rahman said in a statement.
"We believe our competitive products, especially with specialised and differentiated generic products, will help strengthen our presence in the US and other advanced markets," Managing Director Nazmul Hassan added.
Shares in Beximco were trading up 8.4% at 34.00 pence on Friday morning.
