Beowulf Gets Kallak North Backing From Swedish Mining Inspectorate

12th Oct 2015 15:29

LONDON (Alliance News) - Beowulf Mining PLC on Monday said the Mining Inspectorate of Sweden has written to the Swedish government recommending Beowulf's exploitation concession application for the Kallak North project be granted.

The letter to the government follows an invitation from the Swedish Department of Enterprise and Innovation to the Mining Inspectorate to present their views on the application.

"We have always maintained that our application for an exploitation concession met all the requirements of the Swedish regulations, with comprehensive studies being undertaken and reports complied by an experienced team of Swedish consultants, to produce an environmental impact assessment sufficient for this stage of permitting," said Beowulf Chief Executive Kurt Budge.

"We are hopeful that a final decision by the government will now be forthcoming, and we are excited at the prospect of achieving this significant milestone, moving forward with the project and building stronger relationships and partnerships with all our key stakeholders in the communities in and around Jokkmokk, and throughout the County of Norrbotten," he added.

Beowulf said it will focus its attention on the points raised by the Mining Inspectorate to optimise its operation and said it would pay special attention to the interactions between mining and reindeer herding, which has raised concerns in the local communities.

Beowulf shares were up 21% to 3.80 pence per share on Monday.
