LONDON (Alliance News) - Base Resources Ltd Tuesday said the first bulk shipment of ilmenite from its Kwale Mineral Sands Project in Kenya has left port, bound for China.
The ore-mining company said its ship loader performed to expectations, reaching its design capacity of 1,000 tonnes per hour. The bulk carrier MV African Eagle has left port loaded with 25,000 tonnes of ilmenite.
The company said regular shipments of both ilmenite and rutile will now commence, with shipments of each product scheduled for March.
Base also said that zircon production has begun at the Kwale Project and that, over the next several weeks, the company plans to ramp up processing rates and inventories ahead of the commencement of containerised zircon sales in March.
The company said it will now focus is now on balancing and de-bottlenecking the mineral separation plant at Kwale, so it can ramp up production towards the desired throughput.
Base Resources shares were up 7.4% to 24.70 pence Tuesday.
