(Alliance News) - Base Resources Ltd has successfully moved mining operations at the Kwale mineral sands project in Kenya, the miner said Tuesday.
Base has been moving from the Central Dune site to the South Dune orebody at Kwale, which has now been finished.
Base Resources mines zircon, rutile and ilmenite from Kwale. Ilmenite and rutile are titanium ores, while zircon is a gemstone which can be used to make ceramics more opaque.
Mining rates at Kwale are back to nameplate capacity, Base said, with the processing plant having used stockpiled concentrate while the move was taking place to ensure full production.
Executive Director of Operations & Development Colin Bwye said: "We have been planning for this transition of mining for over 12-months and it is a testament to the professionalism of the team that the move was completed on schedule and without incident."
In April, Base guided for production to fall in its financial year ended June due to the move to the South Dune orebody, which has lower grades.
Shares were 8.0% higher on Tuesday morning in London at a price of 13.50 pence each.
