LONDON (Alliance News) - Bankers Petroleum Ltd said Wednesday it has begun to temporarily curtail production following a crude oil leak at the Petrolifera Italo Albanese terminal port facility near Vlore, Albania.
This leak was caused when the terminal operator was loading a third-party vessel on Sunday. This leak has been cleaned, but operations at the terminal have been suspended while local authorities conduct an investigation into the incident.
This suspension has led to a shortage of available crude storage at the port facility as well as within the Patos-Marinza oilfield, where Bankers has operations. Bankers said it will begin to curtail its production Wednesday to accommodate this, and this may lead to a full field shut down in the next couple of day.
The suspension is expected to be lifted in the coming days, so Bankers can resume its operations as usual, it said.
Earlier Wednesday, Bankers said its shareholders have supported the proposed takeover of the company by Chinese oil and gas group Geo-Jade Petroleum Corp, with over 97% voting in favour of the deal on Tuesday.
Shares in Bankers Petroleum were untraded Wednesday. They last closed at 106.00 pence.
