LONDON (Alliance News) - FTSE 250-listed construction and support services company Balfour Beatty PLC on Friday said its joint venture with engineering company NG Bailey has been appointed preferred bidder on the GBP460 million Hinkley Point C power station electrical package, awarded by French energy company EDF Energy.
The joint venture, Balfour Beatty Bailey, will work on both of the proposed units at Hinkley Point C to deliver the infrastructure which will power the stations and its operations. The work will include the design and installation of around 76,000 cables totalling over 3,000 kilometres in length, along with cable containment support systems, fire and environmental sealing and earthing systems.
The six-year project is set to start in 2016, with the construction phase to begin in 2017.
"This project enables Balfour Beatty to deploy its extensive experience and knowledge of the nuclear sector as the UK takes its next significant step forward in low-carbon energy," said Balfour Chief Executive Leo Quinn.
