Balfour Beatty Joint Venture Awarded Singapore Rail Contracts

8th Nov 2013 09:57

LONDON (Alliance News) - Infrastructure and construction firm Balfour Beatty PLC Friday said its joint venture Gammon Construction has won rail contracts in Singapore worth GBP148 million.

Gammon Construction is 50% owned with Asian conglomerate Jardine Matheson Holdings Limited.

Singapore's Land Transport Authority has awarded Gammon a GBP87 million contract for the design and construction of the Mayflower Station on The Thomson Line.

The Thomson Line is a 30km underground train line that is expected to be fully completed in 2021. Part of Singapore's Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system, the line comprises 22 stations, including Mayflower Station and six interchange stations. Work is due to start in the first quarter of 2014.

The second contract was awarded by SMRT Trains for track system replacement on the North-South Line, in a deal worth GBP61 million.

It involves the changing of sleepers from timber to concrete as part of the renewal and upgrade of the existing North-South Line. Work on this contract is due to start in the fourth quarter of 2013 and is expected to complete by the end of January 2015, Balfour Beatty said.

Balfour Beatty shares were trading at 279.06 pence Friday morning, up 3.76 pence.
