Balfour Beatty, Carillion And Galliford Try In Aberdeen Road Contract

LONDON (Alliance News) - Construction companies Balfour Beatty PLC, Carillion PLC and Galliford Try PLC Thursday said they have been selected as preferred bidders to finance, design build and operate the GBP745 million Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route/Balmedie to Tipperty road project.

The three companies, which have formed a consortium called Connect Roads, will deliver the project for Transport Scotland in partnership with Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire Councils.

Balfour Beatty, Carillion and Galliford Try will invest up to GBP20 million each in the project and will split the construction revenue equally.

The project, includes the design and construction of 46 kilometres of new dual carriageway between Stonehaven and Charleston in the south and Blackdog in the north, and a further 12 kilometres of upgraded existing dual carriageway between Blackdog and Tipperty.

The contract will also include the construction of 40 kilometres of new side roads, 30 kilometres of access tracks and 72 new bridges, including two significant focal-point bridges over the rivers Dee and Don.

Following the completion of construction in 2018, the route will be managed and maintained by Connect Roads for 30 years.

Balfour Beatty shares were quoted down 0.2% at 236.90 pence Thursday morning. Carillion shares were quoted down 0.3% at 351.40p, while Galliford Try shares were trading down 0.4% at 1,155.00p Thursday morning.
