BAE Systems Confirms Charles Woodburn To Be Chief Operating Officer

15th Feb 2016 07:18

LONDON (Alliance News) - BAE Systems PLC on Monday confirmed the appointment of Charles Woodburn as its new chief operating officer, a hire flagged in reports at the weekend and which will be widely seen as a signal to the group's chief executive succession plans.

The FTSE 100-listed defence contractor said Woodburn, currently the chief executive of oilfield services company Expro, will join the company in the COO role in the second quarter of the year, reporting directly to Chief Executive Ian King. Previously, Woodburn was an executive at US oil services group Schlumberger Ltd.

The appointment had been reported by the Financial Times over the weekend as a move by BAE to line up a successor to King, who is expected to retire in the next 12 to 18 months.

King had been chief operating officer at the group prior to taking on the CEO role in 2008.

"I am delighted that we have secured an individual of considerable talent and proven industrial experience as part of our succession planning programme. Charles will bring fresh perspective to the company's operations and board, whilst building a detailed knowledge of the defence industry under the guidance of Ian King," said BAE Chairman Roger Carr.
