LONDON (Alliance News) - BAE Systems PLC Monday said it has been awarded a nine-year contract worth USD187.4 million from the US Navy.
The contract is for BAE to support radio and communication systems design and integration for 13 surface combat ships, and carries an initial value of USD28.4 million and a total value of USD187.4 million over the nine-year period, said the company.
Under the agreement, BAE will provide systems engineering, production, and integration for 13 US Navy ships - 12 DDG 51 Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyers and one DDG 2000 Zumwalt-class guided missile destroyer.
The work is being completed as part of the Navy?s new construction program, which is designed to field advanced-capability new surface combatant ships for the US Naval fleet, said BAE.
"We have a hard working and dedicated team of experts that has worked on every DDG 51 class destroyer in the US Navy?s fleet, including most recently the USS John Finn," said DeEtte Gray, president of BAE Systems? Intelligence and Security sector. "That?s 63 new ships over 29 years."
BAE shares were down 0.3% to 506.00 pence per share late Monday afternoon.
