LONDON (Alliance News) - Babcock International Group PLC said Tuesday it has been named the preferred bidder on a 21 year fleet management contract by The London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority to manage London Fire Brigade's vehicle fleet.
The engineering support provider's contract win follows the successful completion of an interim fleet management contract with the LFEPA, awarded to Babcock in November 2012.
There will now be a mandatory 10 day period before the final contract award is announced.
Babcock said the contract is slated to be become operational November 13, 2014.
Under the terms of the 21 year contract, Babcock will be working with LFB, the UK's largest fire and rescue service, to manage and improve availability of its fleet of 500 vehicles and 50,000 pieces of specialist equipment across Greater London.
As part of the agreement, Babacock will also invest in LFB operational premises at an existing site in Ruislip and at a new facility in Greenwich, said the company, designed to provide state-of-the-art facilities for the management and maintenance of the fleet as well as enabling greater community engagement.
As well as building on the interim fleet contract, Babcock said the new contract builds on its long-term partnership with LFB; since 2011 Babcock has been developing and delivering training programmes and training facilities to LFB as part of a 25 year contract.
"We are delighted to have been chosen as preferred bidder for this contract, which reflects our ability to provide market-leading support to the emergency services. We look forward to working in partnership with the London Fire Brigade, supporting its delivery of vital services to make London a safer city and sustaining its status as a world-class fire and rescue service," said Peter Rogers, Chief Executive of Babcock.
The FTSE 100-listed company yesterday announced that its Cavendish Fluor Partnership had been selected as the preferred bidder in the competition for a GBP7 billion contract to take ownership of Magnox Ltd and Research Sites Restoration Ltd, the site licence companies for 12 UK nuclear sites. The joint venture was named the lead bidder by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority.
