LONDON (Alliance News) - Avocet Mining PLC on Friday said its mining operations have not been impacted by the unrest in Burkina Faso this week.
Burkina Faso President Blaise Compaore resigned Friday following violent protests in the country over his attempt to extend his 27-year rule of the West African country.
Compaore issued a statement saying the presidency is now vacant and called for elections to take place within 90 days. Military chief General Honore Traore has taken over as head of state.
Protesters angry over Compaore's attempt to amend the country's constitution in order to extend his rule set fire to parliament and government building on Thursday.
Avocet said its operations at the Inata mine in the country were unaffected by the events at present, though it said it was taking all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of its workers at the site.
It said it will monitor events in the country closely as the situation develops.
Avocet shares were trading flat at 5.10 pence on Friday afternoon.
