Avast launches new browser with built-in virtual private network

26th Oct 2021 09:49

(Alliance News) - Avast PLC on Tuesday said it has launched a premium version of its free secure and private browser.

The Prague-based cybersecurity software company said Avast Secure Browser PRO, a Chromium-based browser for Windows PCs, includes an integrated virtual private network and advanced Adblock technology for people who need a "lightweight but comprehensive" suite of security, privacy and performance services to tackle web-based threats.

"We've built our browser around a security & privacy center to provide this in a way that is frictionless for the user and based on the belief that in order to preserve people's digital freedom, security and privacy needs to be simplified and demystified," said Fiona Cliffe, director of Browser Product at Avast.

FTSE 100-listed Avast said it has also added accompanying privacy and compatibility features in Avast Secure Browser PRO, including connection for up to five devices on both mobile and desktop.

Avast didn't comment on its impending acquisition by NortonLifelock. In August, Avast agreed to be bought by Tempe, Arizona-based NortonLifeLock in a deal worth about USD8.6 billion. For each Avast share, the offer is USD2.37 in cash, plus 0.1937 of a NortonLifeLock share.

Avast shares were trading 0.4% higher in London on Tuesday morning at 563.80 pence each.
