LONDON (Alliance News) - Avanti Communications Group PLC said Monday it has inked a new contract with BT Group PLC to be part of BT's supply of wholesale consumer broadband services to be sold on to customers in the UK as part of the government's Universal Service Commitment.
Under this plan up to 300,000 homes which cannot access greater than 2 megabits per second internet connections from terrestrial networks will be eligible to get a contribution from the government to fund the installation of satellite broadband services. The scheme is expected to go live during December.
"We welcome this significant intervention by government to ensure that the Universal Service Commitment is met and we are pleased to serve the best interests of the UK consumer," said Chief Executive of Avanti David Williams in a statement.
