LONDON (Alliance News) - Avanti Communications Group PLC, the satellite communication services, said Tuesday that it has entered a strategic partnership with the Department for International Development to deliver an education programme to Kenyan schools.
The programme is powered by satellite broadband via Avanti's HYLAS 2 satellite, which provides 100% coverage over Kenya.
The new partnership will reach 60,000 Kenyan pupils, including a large proportion of girls currently marginalised from education, it said.
Avanti said that the Department for International Development has contributed GBP9.46 million in funding to the programmes, though its "Girls' Education Challenge" initiative.
"Our innovative collaboration provides a unique solution to overcome the huge challenges faced by this sector. Wide-scale deployment will positively impact hundreds of communities, powered by Avanti's quality Ka-band satellite technology," said Chief Executive David Williams in a statement.
Shares in Avanti Communications were trading 0.7% lower at 294.95 pence Tuesday morning.
