Avacta Collaborating With Liverpool University On Biomarker Research

3rd Feb 2014 11:06

LONDON (Alliance News) - Avacta Group PLC said Monday that it had commenced a collaboration with Liverpool University, working on a project to develop efficient methods of identifying proteins as potential biomarkers.

A biomarker is a characteristic that can be measured to indicate a biological state or condition, such as the development of a disease.

Avacta will provide its Affirmers, engineered alternatives to antibodies, to Rob Benynon's team at Liverpool University to undergo the process of mass spectrometry, an analytic technique.

"The work with Professor Beynon is a key collaboration for us as it expands the commercial potential for Affirmers considerably," said Chief Executive Alastair Smith in a statement.

Shares in Avacta last traded flat at 1.14 pence Monday morning.
