Aurrigo launches largest-yet autonomous aviation vehicle Auto-Cargo

3rd Apr 2025 12:24

(Alliance News) - Aurrigo International PLC launched its largest autonomous aviation vehicle 'Auto-Cargo' on Thursday.

The Coventry, England-based company is a provider of transport technology solutions.

The vehicle will go on trial, moving heavy cargo loads to and from aircraft at the UPS hub at East Midlands Airport, which is the UK's second-largest cargo terminal.

Aurrigo has collaborated with United Parcel Service Inc on the project since September 2023.

Designed to move heavy cargo loads to and from aircraft, Auto-Cargo is a fully autonomous electric vehicle that was built using a combination of highly engineered hardware and Aurrigo's propriety autonomous hardware.

According to Aurrigo, the fully electric and emission-free cargo solution can carry loads of 16,500kg when towing a standard trailer.

Chief Executive Officer of Aurrigo David Keene said: "This development builds on the significant success we have seen with the roll-out of our smaller Auto-DollyTug at airports across the globe, helping to transport passenger luggage. There is huge demand for automation in the air-freight space, demand we are now in a position to serve."

The funding for the vehicle was backed from the UK government's Innovate UK and Centre for Connected & Autonomous Vehicles.

UK Minister for Industry & Decarbonisation Sarah Jones said: "Our modern industrial strategy will help build on successes like Aurrigo's autonomous technology, bringing growth, jobs and opportunities to every part of the UK and delivering on our 'plan for change.

"By working in partnership with industry, we want to drive forward innovation and propel the development of next generation zero emission and automated vehicle technologies."

Aurrigo shares were untraded in London on Thursday and last traded at 41.00 pence on Wednesday.
