(Alliance News) - Atome PLC on Friday said it was in a good position to deliver a final investment decision for its flagship Villeta green fertiliser project within the first half of next year.
The Leeds, England-based developer of international green fertiliser projects in the Americas said favourable progress continues to be made regarding its 145 megawatt Villeta green fertiliser project.
The project will be located 35 kilometres from Paraguay's capital Asuncion, aimed at supplying the region's agricultural and fertiliser markets with sustainable alternatives.
Atome expects initial work on site in Villeta to start in the first part of the first quarter of 2025.
Chief Executive Officer Olivier Mussat said: "We anticipate regular newsflow will start next month with a detailed update which will also include information on our growing pipeline of projects and renewable power related initiatives."
Last week, Atome announced it took the option to buy 13 hectares of land immediately next to its Villeta green fertiliser facility, which would allow the facility to expand its total site to 43 hectares of contiguous area. The option is exercisable until the end of May.
Finally, in Mid-November, the company posted its nomination for Engineering, Procurement & Construction, or EPC, contractor for the project, which it said is capable of producing about 260,000 tonnes of calcium ammonium nitrate per year.
Atome selected Casale SA, a specialised engineering and construction firm based in Lugano, Switzerland, as its sole contractor for Villeta.
"As one of the world's most experienced licensors of ammonia technologies in the market, Casale will leverage its suite of cutting-edge technologies in fertiliser production and over 100 years of history in sustainable ammonia and nitrates to deliver Atome's world-leading innovative facility.," Atome said.
Casale Chief Executive Officer Federico Zardi said: "Being appointed as the EPC contractor for the Villeta project is a significant milestone for Casale. With over a century of expertise and an unwavering commitment to safety, quality, and excellence, we don't just dream of a greener planet; together with Atome, we are shaping it."
Atome shares closed 2.6% higher at 48.73 pence each on Friday in London.
