AstraZeneca Inks Research Collaboration With Wallenberg Centre

11th Dec 2015 09:10

LONDON (Alliance News) - AstraZeneca PLC on Friday said its MedImmune biologics research and development business has signed a three-year collaboration deal with the Wallenberg Centre for Protein Research in Sweden.

Under the deal, the pair will work on developing new technologies for biologics production and to identify new targets for disease research in the area of Secretome, which covers research into all proteins which are secreted by a cell or exposed to the outside of the cell from within the cell membrane.

"We're tremendously excited to be part of this innovative collaboration as we explore what science can do to advance medical research. Harnessing the power of the Secretome in this unprecedented way will help us to identify new biomarkers, drug targets and ultimately develop next-generation biological treatments," said Pascal Soriot, AstraZeneca's chief executive.

Shares in AstraZeneca were up 0.2% to 4,388.50 pence on Friday.
