LONDON (Alliance News) - FTSE 100-listed AstraZeneca PLC Monday confirmed that it is exploring "potential strategic options" with Acerta Pharma BV, although it said there can be no certainty any deal will ultimately be made.
The confirmation follows reports late last week that the company was in talks to acquire the California and Netherlands-based cancer drug development company for more than USD5.0 billion.
The move would come after the deal struck by AstraZeneca in early November to acquire California-based ZS Pharma for USD2.7 billion, a move widely seen as a push by the company to boost its pipeline amid concerns about some key drugs falling off the patent cliff.
